scaredy dog

While out on one of our many adventures, with the kids & the dog. We were enjoying our walk in one of the local estates, watching the girls climb trees &run around daft, tiring themselves out well & good for bed time. They climbed up on the pirate ship (one of the many play areas, in the estate) climbing right up to the top deck of the ship, they were prentending they were out to sea, shouting “man the sails” “dog overboard” having a great time.

Just then our dottery dog decides he wants to join in the fun, he climbs up to the top deck to see what the girls are up to, loving life & very happy to be a part if their fun. This goes on for a good while, I almost felt bad about getting them to leave. I decide to head further in to the park to explore a bit more. I shout on the girls to come down & with the normal “awww, Can’t we just stay here?” & me answering “we can come back up later” they finally come down & we start walking. Assuming the dog is right behind us we carry on, we are stopped in our tracks, when we hear the dog whining & starting to bark, looking around we don’t see him, so we head back towards the pirate ship & realise the silly dog is still on the top deck. We all start calling on him, shaking his bag of treats, trying anything to make him come down. Then I realise… he’s stuck, this big, goofy, black labrador is stuck & it soon becomes apparent that I’m going to have to climb up there to retrieve him from the brig.

Cursing the dog under my breath, stamping my feet the whole way over to the pirate ship, I look into the crawl space that leads up to the deck on which my dog sits. There is a small triangular shaped hole on the roof at the very back of the crawl space that I now need to squeeze my way through, again, cursing the dog, I duck down small, almost on my hands & knees & make my way to the small hole, pushing my way up & sucking in my tummy, I manage to squeeze through. Now sitting on the deck, I look at my dog & call him an asshole. I try using one of his treats to convince him to come to the edge of the deck, this works but when I try to guide him down he’s having none of it. He keeps pulling away from me, obviously quite scared he can’t put his feet anywhere, to get back down. I try this a few more times, edging him closer & closer to the edge, but still he won’t move down. So I did what I had to do, I sat on the floor beside the small hole, with my feet hanging off the side, I pulled my dog towrards me, holding him as tight as I could while he wriggled & tried to get away, shaking the whole time. Gripping tighter, I manage to hover him over the entrance & using all of my strength, lower him down into the crawl space, as soon as his feet touch the floor, the little bugger takes off running, as if nothing happend, all excited & leaves me to make my own way down… Rude.

So that’s how my Saturday was spent, saving a dog, who’s apparently scared of heights!

Thanks
